As we know that, On October 29th , 2008 a devastating earthquake occurred in the northeast of Baluchistan. IDSP teams with groups of volunteers have established their relief centers in both of the affected areas of district Pishin and district Ziarat. They have carried a preliminary need assessment of the affected areas along with information of losses. According to reports four Union Councils of district Ziarat., Kawas, Kach, Zranda, and Ghoski are severely affected. In district Pishin Tehsil Khanozai is affected in which Kilii Khushab, Shadgai and Zarghoon are mainly affected.
According to the recent reports, the earthquake has caused over more than 220 casualties and more than 1700 sever injuries (reported till Oct 30th). The earthquake has directly affected lives of the more than 20,000 people.
According to the reports developed by IDSP's fellows in both of the affected interior areas, more than 5000 houses are either demolished or cracked severely which are not worth living. Despite shelters sources of livelihood are also demolished which can cause a major displacement from this interior area to the urban centers mainly Quetta.
The displaced population has taken shelter mainly in the orchards. Due to cultural constraints women and young girls are prone to miseries especially regarding their mobility for water, food and toilets. According to recent statistics there are more than 5000 children which are prone to different diseases due to sever winter and poor conditions of health and hygiene.
Relief Centers of IDSP have distributed food,tents and medicines which were purchased with the financial support of IDSP fellows and various individual donations.
People in these areas are facing unforeseen miseries by earthquake devastation. They are waiting for your immediate assistance. You are requested to support us in cash or kind for the rescuing affected people through providing Food, Medicines, tents and blankets.
