MESSAGE OF PM ON DEATH ANNIVERSARY OF SHAHEED ZAB

Pakistani nation will always remember the historic and courageous role and intellectual thoughts of first elected Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. By setting the exemplary standard of living for the people and dying for the people, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto has become immortal in the pages of history and hearts of the people.
Zulfikar ali Bhutto was the first elected popular Prime Minister who took care of oppressed, backward and financially suppressed people and made them conscious to boldly raise their voice. Due to his exemplary role, the passion which he engendered in the hearts of the people and the candle of hope which he lighted in their dispossessed eyes still is bright and glowing.
A new and popular turn came in the political history of Pakistan when Zulfikar Ali Bhutto founded Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and made the Pakistan people aware of a new direction of progressive politics and during the PPP government took many memorable and far reaching steps for the welfare and progress of people, which have been recorded in the pages of history.
The significant achievements accomplished by Bhutto Shaheed in the political, social, industrial and cultural fields of Pakistan will shine on the pages of history forever. He gave a democratic and unanimous constitution of 1973 nation to the Pakistan nation, which I think the Pakistan nation will always remember only this blessing of Bhutto Shaheed.
Keeping in view the industrial and democratic needs of Pakistan, he laid the foundations of the industrial progress by implementing the projects like Pakistan Steel Mills, Heavy Mechanical Complex.
Besides that he took the courageous, wise and farsighted decision to make Pakistan a nuclear power, which proved that he wanted to achieve an honourable and dignified status for Pakistan in the comity of nations for eternity.
Through educational reforms, the people's government of Bhutto Shaheed established universities of international standard all over the country and by bringing revolutionary changes in curriculum made the new generation of Pakistan with political, cultural and cultural progress taking place across the world.
He set up institutions like Pakistan National Council of the Arts, Lok Virsa, National Book Foundation, Pakistan Academy of letters and Urdu Science Board and brought in a cultural and literary revolution in the country.
In the worst years of dictatorship, Bhutto raised the flag of rights of people and democratic freedoms setting out on a valiant political journey during which despite thousands of difficulties and adversities he did not break his relation with the people and neither his resolve wavered and in the end he went to the gallows of dictatorship for his crime to seek rights of people and for his love for the man on the street.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto started struggle for the elevation of the oppressed sections of society and till the last moments of her life Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto continued this mission with full passion, courage and determination.
During her struggle to finish off dictatorial powers, restore democratic rights of people, achieve social justice and build a welfare society, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto achieved martyrdom and for all time to come became a role model for political leaders, political workers, students and women.
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto lighted the candle of sacrifices which was never allowed to go out by the Bhutto family. And Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrifice of her blood to keep this candle burning ever brighter. The courage, bravery and services of Bhutto family will never be forgotten by the Pakistani nation.
On the day of sacrifice of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed, we should renew our pledge that the present democratic and people's government will make the thoughts and character of Bhutto Shaheed a beacon to follow and in the guidance of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and with popular support, Pakistan will continue on the path of progress and prosperity.
